Lone Spiegelhauer, CLO

But don't just take our word for it! We recently had the opportunity to speak with our Chief Logistics Officer, Lone Spiegelhauer, who provided some insight into what it's like to work at Nordic Computer and how interns can benefit from their experience here. In the series of few questions, Lone provided her view and experience on working with new talents.

What qualities or skills do you look for in potential interns/trainees and how do you evaluate their performance during the internship?

‘’Firstly, we look for the willingness they have, because if they want to be at work they need to be on time, and I know it is a small thing but for me, it is very important. Another thing is being open-minded and showing that they want to learn something new. I also like to see people who are being positive and have a smile on their faces. Since we have 21 employees now in the warehouse and logistics department, it is important for us to have a good relationship as we need to cooperate and help each other. Because if you are happy you invest in your job as well. Some IT skills are important as well as we work a lot in BC14.’’

 

‘’And how do we evaluate it? Every semester, our interns must fulfill some requirements before going into another semester, and sometimes it does not have to be much, but I am personally making sure we give them tasks where they can meet them. We assign them daily, and we integrate them into our routine, so they have the possibility not only to learn what is required of them but always something extra.’’

How do you ensure that the company's reputation and culture align with the expectations of potential employees?

’We did not have any interns for quite some time, because we were very busy in the warehouse. I do not see interns only as an extra pair of hands but as someone who can bring a lot to our department. I always ask them how they are doing, and I like to be around them. It is important to ensure they are all right, and I want them to feel seen and heard. We set a goal and they know what is expected of them. Sometimes we make mistakes, even me, but we always try to look at what happened, how can we do now to fix it, and what we can learn from it. We are also making sure our interns get to learn how other departments work, they talk with our CEO, product managers, or sales team to help them understand better what we are doing.’’

How does the company support professional development and career growth for interns and trainees, and what opportunities are available for them to advance within the company?

''We always ask them if they would like to continue working with us after their internship is over. I think it is important to ask them what they think and whether they would like to stay. I do not see it as necessary they stay, e.g., in a warehouse but if I see the potential, I will ask them whether they would like to try to work in logistics, to try and see if they would like it.  We care about the working culture and hold many one-on-one meetings where I ask them what they are like and how they like the job but also what they don’t like. I can see our interns have a lot of skills, and we talk about their future development in Nordic Computer in the last 6 months of their stay with us.  So, if I can tell they can do great in another department and want to switch, I always discuss it with them, and they can do so.’’
